WOM 2026 Q3

The Buzz

Welcome to summer! I am absolutely loving the warmer weather and the opportunity to spend more time with my kiddos. I hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful season and finding time to make special memories with your family and friends.

The second quarter was a busy and rewarding one for us at Summit Orthodontics. One of my favorite parts of being a business owner is finding ways to give back to the communities that have supported us for so many years.

We kicked off the quarter by sponsoring the Charlotte Evening Rotary Purse Bingo, which raised an incredible $11,000 for the senior center and the Charlotte community. Next came the Hanover-Horton Purse Bingo, where more than $30,000 was raised to support the football program. Have you noticed a purse theme? Apparently, we ladies really do love our designer bags!

Another exciting community event was Gus Macker. Through our Dream Court sponsorship, we were proud to help support the many athletes, families, and spectators who filled Downtown Jackson for a weekend of fun, competition, and community spirit.

Education continues to be one of my greatest passions and remains a cornerstone of Summit Orthodontics’ commitment to our community. Last quarter, we had the privilege of welcoming several educational groups to our Jackson office. The Jackson Area Career Center brought nearly 50 students to learn about careers in dentistry and healthcare. I also had the pleasure of hosting my second-year orthodontic residents from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, who spent time observing the day-to-day operations of a private practice. To round out the quarter, we welcomed the second-year dental hygiene class for a lecture on orthodontic materials and techniques. Watching students explore potential career paths and grow in their professional journeys is incredibly rewarding, and I feel fortunate to play a small role in their education.

As much as I love orthodontics, I am equally grateful for the amazing team I get to work alongside every day. To celebrate their hard work and dedication, we enjoyed a team retreat at Boyne Mountain filled with team-building activities, laughter, and a little well-deserved spa relaxation. Summit Orthodontics would not be what it is without this incredible group of people, and I am thankful every day for their commitment to our patients and our practice.

The fun doesn’t stop with the second quarter! We have several exciting events planned for the summer. In August, we’ll launch our annual “Tag Your Favorite Teacher” contest on Facebook, where one deserving teacher will receive $500 for their classroom. Later in the month, our Back-to-School Battle will return, giving local schools another opportunity to earn support and bragging rights. Be sure to follow us on social media so you don’t miss out on the fun!

As always, thank you for allowing us to be part of your family’s smile journey. We are grateful for your trust and support, and we look forward to seeing you in the office this summer!

Bonding Over Books

Title:  10% Happier

Author: Dan Harris

Intended Audience: Adult

10% Happier is a wonderful blend of memoir and self-help that is both engaging and insightful. Author Dan Harris, a former ABC News journalist and anchor, candidly shares his struggles with severe anxiety, PTSD, and drug addiction while navigating the high-pressure world of national news broadcasting.

In this beautifully written book, Harris offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at network journalism and foreign correspondence, while also exploring the inner voice that so often tells us we are not good enough. I especially enjoyed learning about how national news operates and reading the stories of the remarkable people he interviewed throughout his career.

What resonated most with me was Harris’s journey toward recovery and self-awareness. Through mindfulness and meditation, he learned how to quiet his self-sabotaging thoughts and become more present in everyday life. The practical techniques he shares for cultivating mindfulness are simple, relatable, and applicable to anyone seeking greater balance and well-being.

Whether you have an interest in journalism or are looking to begin your own wellness journey, 10% Happier is an inspiring and worthwhile read.
